After World Cup Shoaib Akthar to retire
Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has decided to retire after the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He told this news to his team mates at the Premadasa Stadium. Shoaib's World Cup campaign began on a good note till he was torn apart by Ross Taylor in the final overs of the match. He was rested in the game against Canada and was dropped in the game against Zimbabwe.
One can recall Shoaib Akthar's rise to fame in the test match against India when he dismissed Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Although he has been caught in several controversies rearding his bowling action and discipline he has always been a valuable asset to Pakistan. Shoaib bowled at 100mph against New Zealand in 2002 and needs just 3 more wickets to touch the 250 mark in one day cricket. He said that he hoped that he would play his last match on 2nd April.

Which teams will qualify from Group B for quarter finals: WC 2011
South Africa has sailed through to the quarterfinals but there is a lot of uncertainity for the remaining 3 slots. Will India qualify for the quarter finals? Will Enland qualify for the quarter finals? Will West Indies qualify for the quarter finals or Will Bangladesh qualify for the quarter finals?
Below are some permutations and combinations required by the different teams in Group B to qualify for the next stage.
The qualification depends on these matches:
1. ENG (5) Vs WI (6)
2. SA (8) Vs BAN (6)
3. IND (7) Vs WI (6).
Right now the points (nrr) for teams: ENG -> 7 (0.013); WI-> 6 (2.206); SA-> 8 (1.606); BAN-> 6 (-0.765); IND-> 7 (0.768);
I hope every body knows that, if India wins in the last match they will be second in the group, provided, SA wins over BAN, otherwise, they will top the group. Let’s see what happens if they don’t win that last match.
Since we assume WI win, WI will have 8 points. The possible scenarios are:
1. If ENG win Vs WI and SA win Vs BAN, B1: SA (10); B2: WI (8); B3: IND (7); B4: ENG (7). IND (7) will be ahead of ENG (7) since the nrr is better for India, for ENG to be ahead of IND, the margin of runs combined (margin of ENG win margin of IND loss) should be more than 192 runs, which is very difficult or impossible.
2. If ENG win Vs WI and BAN win Vs SA, B1: WI (8); B2: SA (8); B3: BAN (8); B4: IND (7). Again, IND (7) will be ahead of ENG (7) since the nrr is better for India, for ENG to be ahead of IND, the margin of runs combined (margin of ENG win margin of IND loss) should be more than 192 runs, which is almost impossible.
3. If WI win Vs ENG and SA win Vs BAN, B1: SA (10); B2: WI (10); B3: IND (7); B4: BAN (6). SA and WI position may interchange with nrr. ENG (5) is out.
4. If WI win Vs ENG and BAN win Vs SA, B1: WI (10); B2: SA (8); B3: BAN (8); B4: IND (7). ENG (5) is out.

South Africa qualified for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup quarter finals in Group B defeating Ireland by 131 runs. Eden Garden hosted the first match of the World Cup. JP Duminy scored a well deserved knock of 99 runs and along with Ingram who scored 46 runs rescued South Africa who were reeling at 117/5. Update: Bahrain Grand Prix 2011
Latest development from Bahrain suggest that the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix 2011 is very unlikely to be held in the year end. The country was placed under military rule on Tuesday after the protest showed no signs of stopping. It is unlikely that peace will return back so soon to Bahrain and that's the reason I dont see the race takin place over there this year.

Kamran Akmal jokes after the New Zealand World Cup match
After gifting Ross Taylor a perfect birthday gift by dropping him twice Kamran Akmal has become the puching boy on the internet. Read below some of the jokes posted on twitter and other online sources.
- Behind every successful man, there is a successful woman. Behind every successful batsman, there is Kamran Akmal
- What do Michael Jackson and Kamran Akmal have in common?
They both wear gloves for no apparent reason. - Kamran Akmal’s favourite pickup line – can I drop you anywhere?
- Kamran Akmal’s take on wicket keeping – making sure the batsman keeps his wicket for as long as possible
- Unlukiest dismissal in international cricket:
‘caught Akmal’ - Had Kamran Akmal starred in 127 Hours , the rock would have fallen straight through.
- World's greatest birthday gift declared by Guinness - Kamran Akmal for Ross Taylor.
- If Pakistan do win the WorldCup, at least they now know who not to hand the trophy to, while celebrating
- Kamran's favorite song: "Drop it like it's hot"
- “If you have Piyush, we have Kamran,” PCB Chief Ijaz Butt texted his Indian counterpart N Srinivasan.
- sponsors love the sight of Kamran in a pair of gloves because he double-handedly converts Pakistan’s matches into slickly edited episodes of World’s Funniest Videos.
- Latest ratings suggest that TRPs for the Pakistan-New Zealand match were as high as the IPL auctions.... Thanks to Kamran Akmal.

Ireland upset England in Cricket World Cup 2011 league match
Minnows are known to cause a few surprises in World Cup Cricket matches and this time its no different. On Wednesday Ireland beat England by 3 wickets in a Group B match. After surprising Pakistan in the previous edition of the World Cup Ireland gave the same treatment to England. Kevin O'Brien smashed a powerful century to help Ireland win the match.
"When you are 111-5, I just said to myself, we could just potter around and get 220 off 50 overs for eight or nine and the game would have been pretty boring to watch and it wouldn't have been anything to watch on TV," a grinning O'Brien said, clutching his man of the match trophy.
"I just chanced my arm and said I'm going to be as positive as I can and I got a few away and didn't look back really."
Englands batting was good but the fielding and catching was pathetic. Have England blow away their chances of qualifying for the next stage of the ICC World Cup 2011? Only time will tell because they still have to face Bangldesh.
So tonight the Irish will party but the Englishmen would want to forget the day.
Brief scores: Ireland 329/7 in 49.1 overs (KO'Brien 113, Cusack 47; Swann 3-47) beat England 327 for 8 in 50 overs (Trott 92, Bell 81; Mooney 4-63) by 3 wickets.
