Kolkata stripped of ICC World Cup Match

Eden Gardens is not ready for the India-England ICC cricket world cup match and has been stripped of this fixture. "Regrettably, Eden Gardens has not made sufficient progress to justify the level of confidence required to confirm that the venue would be ready in good time," Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, said. "This was no easy decision to take and while it is most unfortunate, it is absolutely necessary." At this point of time the decision whether Kolkata will stage the remaining three world cup matches was not clear.
So who is to be blamed for this mess? Certainly CAB officials are the prime culprit. It was not that they were not aware of the ground situation but they didnt show any urgency. Eden Gardens was supposed to be ready by 31st December but it is not match ready till now. How could ICC allow a premier world cup match to be staged when  details like the media broadcasting and sponsorship facilities were not finalized for the venue yet.? Why was the media not allowed inside the stadium when the inspection was going on? Were the CAB officials hiding something? Now Jagmohan Dalmiya is asking for a ten day extension. Why do we have to keep on asking for extensions when we are staging some international event? Cant we manage it professionally and complete all the work on time? After the negative media coverage recieved for the Commonwealth Games preparation we expected something better from our cricket officials.

BCCI is also equally responsible for this fiasco. Prof. Ratnakar Shetty kept on assuring everyone till the last moment that every thing would be ready in time but one can now say that deep down in his heart he must have known the truth. Why did BCCI allow Kolkata to stage IPL matches when they knew that Eden Gardens was one of the selected venues for the world cup? Were they so sure that the renovation work would be completed in six months? Did they not think it necessary to give Kolkata the extra time for preparation by rescheduling the IPL matches somewhere else?
The reality is that Eden Gardens has been stripped of its first match and the general public of Kolkata is at loss to watch an Indian- England world cup match live.
