Does Vinod Kambli think this match was fixed too?

For the last two days I have been seeing a clip on my television set which I had seen 15 years ago. On that dark night India had lost the semi final match to Sri Lanka and Vinod Kambli was crying. After being in a commanding position India had slipped to120/8 before the match was awarded to the Lankans because of crowd interference. Now Vinod Kambli has alleged that the semi final match was fixed. He blames Mohd. Azharuddin for choosing to field first and is also suspecting foul play in the way the Indian batting collapsed. I am not defending Azhar's decision to field first but one should remember that the same Lankan team easily chased India's target just ten days ago in another match. So it is quite possible that some members of the Indian team felt that it would be better to ask the Sri Lankans to bat first.
Secondly if Kambli suspects that the batting collapse in that innings had anything to do with match fixing can he explain whether another match where he featured was also fixed. This was the final at Sharjah against the same opposition in 2000. India was all out for 54 runs and Kambli had only scored 3 runs. So Mr.Kambli was this match also fixed and were you also involved?

No one thought a team which was plagued with injuries could win the Champions league trophy. Mumbai Indians did exactly that. Before the start of the tournament their player were succumbing to injuries at the rate of knots. There was a stage where one more injury would have left them with insufficient players to field a team. But on Sunday night they clinched the Champions League 2011trophy defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 31 runs.

After bowling out the Mumbai Indians for 139 runs Royal Challengers Bangalore must have thought that they were favorites to win the cup but Mumbai Indians bowlers had other plans. Harbhajan Singh, Chahal, Pollard, Malinga all bowled superbly. After T. Dilshan got out Bangalore were never in the match. Mumbai Indians got $2.5 million as prize money whereas the runners up team got $1.3 million.

Farmers angry with Indian F1 Grand Prix

Farmers in India are threatening to disrupt the Airtel Formula1 Grand Prix which is scheduled to take place on 30th October 2011. The race is going to be held at the Buddh International Circuit ( Noida) which is situated near the capital New Delhi. The farmers are demanding better compensation for their lands which had been taken for the development of the race track. The leader of the agitation Virender Dhada has said that they would start protest marches and sit-ins near the race track from 23rd October. Meanwhile both the Indian drivers Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandok are expected to race in this event.

Latest reports state that a multi layer security arrangement has been made for the event which will include the Delhi Police, UP Police, ex-commandos and foreign security agencies. The F1 teams are scheduled to stay at the Jaypee Green Golf and Spa resort. F1 fever is picking up in India and in the coming days the F1 race fever is going to pick up. If you have not bought your ticket for the event go and get it now else all the F1 tickets will be gone.

Is this India's most disastrous overseas tour?

Before the India-England series was to start I had told my friend that it would be one of the toughest series for India. I was not proved wrong because India lost all the matches on this tour to England. It is an irony that India had to come back empty handed and one could easily say that it was India's most disastrous overseas tour.

There are many reasons why the Indian team fared so badly on this tour. One could start by blaming the board for planning such a hectic schedule before this important series. There was no need for the Indian team to play the matches in West Indies but the Indian board thought otherwise. They also did not include more warm up matches as a result the Indian team did not get the necessary match practice to adjust to the local conditions. Then you could blame the Indian players who preferred to play the cash rich IPL rather than focus on the upcoming series. Some of the seniors suffered injury during IPL matches as a result they never played the full series. In fact the list of injured players is so large on this tour that you could build up a team of injured players alone. Then you have to blame the senior batsmen in the team who performed badly during this tour. Selecting Rahul Dravid for the one day series showed the desperation of the Indian team in finding someone who would star in the English conditions. Lets not talk about the bowlers because I felt that after the injury to Zaheer Khan the Indian team did not have a bowler who could threaten the English team. This was evident in the Test matches when we were unable to polish off the English tail and even in the one day series where despite scoring good runs we lost the matches. We all could see that the Indian players are good on the sub continent pitches but their performance abroad is not that good.

When coach Duncan Fletcher took over the Indian team it was on a high, but after this performance on the England tour it has lost valuable position in both the Test rankings and the One day rankings. I have no doubt that we will beat England when they visit India but we have to plan for the tour of Australia. Looking at the current performance I have no doubt that the same fate awaits us when we tour Australia this winter. I can only hope that the injured players recover and find their form quickly. Also we need a potent fast bowling attack in Australia and not a medium military attack. It's time for the BCCI to wake up and plan for the future else we can only expect more such disastrous overseas tours.
